The market has opened flat with the Nifty still holding the 8250. The 50-share index is up 18.10 points or 0.2 percent at 8256.60. The Sensex is up 5.46 points or at 26872.38. About 345 shares have advanced, 92 shares declined, and 31 shares are unchanged.
GAIL, Lupin, ONGC, ICICI Bank amd M&M are top gainers while Bharti Airtel, SBI, ITC, Bajaj Auto and Axis Bank are down.
The Indian rupee opened lower by 9 paise at 67.40 per dollar on Tuesday versus 67.31 Monday.
The 30-share index was trading at 26834, down 32 points or 0.12 per cent. It touched a high of 26,925.64 and a low of 26,824.26 in morning trade.
The Nifty50 was trading at 8230.90 down 8 points or 0.10 per cent. It touched a high of 8,257.25 and a low of 8,224.50 in the first 30 minutes of trade.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.25 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.37 per cent higher.
GAIL (up 1.7 per cent), ONGC (up 0.80 per cent), M&M (up 0.88 per cent) and Sun Pharma (up 0.52 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.
Bharti Airtel (down 1 per cent), Axis Bank (down 0.43 per cent), L&T (down 0.4 per cent), RIL (down 0.36 per cent), and HUL (down 0.32 per cent) were the major index losers.
