The market opened in green riding high on positive global markets. The Sensex is up 140.51 points or 0.5 percent at 26665.97, and the Nifty up 35.90 points or 0.4 percent at 8176.65. About 393 shares have advanced, 82 shares declined, and 28 shares are unchanged.
Dr Reddy's Labs, Tata Motors, HDFC, Maruti and Tata Steel are top gainers in the Sensex.
The Indian rupee opened flat at 67.20 per dollar on Friday versus previous close of 67.21.
The 30-share index was trading at 26693, up 168 points or 0.63 per cent. It touched a high of 26,719.81 and a low of 26,652.55 in morning trade.
The Nifty50 was trading at 8184.90 up 45 points or 0.56 per cent. It touched a high of 8,192.60 and a low of 8,176.25 in the first 30 minutes of trade.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.56 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.69 per cent higher.
HDFC (up 1.8 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (up 1.5 per cent), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (up 1.25 per cent) and Tata Motors (up 1.2 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.
