Nifty hits 7900, Sensex rises over 100 pts; Tata Motors down --- 17 May 2016

The market has opened strong with the Nifty hitting 7900 cheering results of the exit polls. The 50-share index is up 46.05 points or 0.6 percent at 7906.80. The Sensex is up 147.05 points or 0.6 percent at 25800.28. About 550 shares have advanced, 166 shares declined, and 27 shares are unchanged. 

                                           
ONGC, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC and Bharti Airtel are top gainers while Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto and Asian Paints are losers in the Sensex.

The Indian rupee opened marginally higher by 6 paise at 66.74 per dollar against previous close of 66.80.

The 30-share index was trading at 25,806, up 153 points or 0.60 per cent. It touched a high of 25,820.45 and a low of 25,741.19 in morning trade. 

The Nifty50 was trading at 7,908 up 47 points or 0.61 per cent. It touched a high of 7,910.90 and a low of 7,891.20 in the first 30 minutes of trade. 

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.49 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.47 per cent higher. 

ONGC (up 1.8 per cent), Axis Bank (up 1.6 per cent), HDFC (up 1.4 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 1.3 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers. 

Tata Motors (down 0.46 per cent), HUL (down 0.4 per cent), Adani Ports (down 0.32 per cent) and Wipro (down 0.04 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.
