The market has opened lower as the Sensex is down 77.87 points or 0.3 percent at 25601.06. The Nifty is down 21.90 points or 0.3 percent at 7833.15. About 313 shares have advanced, 357 shares declined, and 32 shares are unchanged.
Hindalco, Bharti, Tata Steel, M&M and Axis Bank are top gainers while ICICI Bank, ITC, GAIL, Maruti and Hero are losers in the Sensex.
The Indian rupee has opened marginally lower at 66.72 a dollar compared to 66.61 a dollar in previous session.
The 30-share index was trading at 25,597, down 81 point or 0.32 per cent. It touched a high of 25,617.70 and a low of 25,549.05 in morning trade.
The Nifty50 was trading at 7,834 down 20 points or 0.26 per cent. It touched a high of 7,839.00 and a low of 7,822.90 in the first 30 minutes of trade.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was down 0.02 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.13 per cent lower.
Tata Steel (up 1.1 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 0.6 per cent), M&M (up 0.5 per cent), Wipro (up 0.36 per cent), and TCS (up 0.3 per cent), were the major Sensex gainers.
ITC (down 1.6 per cent), GAIL India (down 1.3 per cent), and Hero MotoCorp (down 0.96 per cent) were the only Sensex losers.
