The Sensex rose 35.48 points to 27045.15 and the Nifty advanced 3.20 points to 8269.65. The broader markets marginally outperformed benchmarks, rising 0.3 percent as about 1032 shares advanced against 632 declining shares on Bombay .
Tata Motors was the most active stock on BSE after brokerages maintained overweight rating on the stock, saying Jaguar F-Pace, XF & XJ and Discovery Sport will drive further growth.
Astra Microwave, SpiceJet, SBI, Ujjivan Financial, Infosys and L&T were other most active shares.
Bharti Airtel rallied 2.5 percent after telecom commission stuck to a 3 percent spectrum usage charge (SUC) on future spectrum across all spectrum bands.
The 30-share index was trading at 27019, up 10 points or 0.04 per cent. It touched a high of 27,105.41 and a low of 27011.65 in morning trade.
The Nifty50 was trading at 8264.70 down 2 points or 0.02 per cent. It touched a high of 8,288.90 and a low of 8,262.50 in the first 30 minutes of trade.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.16 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.18 per cent higher.
Bharti Airtel (up 1.5 per cent), ONGC (up 1.4 per cent), L&T (up 0.8 per cent) and Sun Pharma (up 0.7 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.
Asian Paints (down 0.8 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 0.6 per cent), TCS (down 0.46 per cent), and Axis Bank (down 0.45 per cent) were major Sensex loser.
