The market has opened marginally higher and the Nifty held 7800 briefly. The Sensex is up 35.74 points or 0.1 percent at 25435.46, and the Nifty up 9.15 points or 0.1 percent at 7792.55. About 437 shares have advanced, 229 shares declined, and 40 shares are unchanged. SEBI has tightend P-Notes for more transparency in compliance with norms and check misuse of P-Notes.
Sun Pharma, ONGC, ITC, BHEL and Axis Bank are top gainers while Lupin, Maruti, Infosys and Hero MotoCorp are losers in the Sensex.
The Indian rupee opened marginally lower by 7 paise at 67.43 per dollar against previous close of 67.36.
The 30-share index was trading at 25,447, up 50 points or 0.19 per cent. It touched a high of 25,498.95 and a low of 25,396.40 in morning trade.
The Nifty50 was trading at 7,793 up 10 points or 0.11 per cent. It touched a high of 7,811.10 and a low of 7,780.50 in the first 30 minutes of trade.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.15 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.06 per cent higher.
ONGC (up 1 per cent), GAIL India (up 0.9 per cent), NTPC (up 0.9 per cent) and Infosys (up 0.62 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.
Lupin (down 4.7 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 0.93 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (down 0.61 per cent) and Tata Steel (down 0.5 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.
