Market falls sharply; Sensex tanks over 250pts, Nifty below 7850 -- 13 May 2016

The market has opened lower Friday. The Sensex is down 59.70 points or 0.2 percent at 25730.52, and the Nifty is down 35.30 points or 0.4 percent at 7865.10. About 247 shares have advanced, 292 shares declined, and 46 shares are unchanged. 

                                           
Tata Motors, Wipro, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints and HUL are top gainers while Dr Reddy's Labs, Tata Steel, BHEL, NTPC and L&T are losers in the Sensex.

The Indian rupee slipped in early trade. It has opened lower by 16 paise at 66.78 per dollar against previous close of 66.62.

The 30-share index was trading at 25,701, down 90 points or 0.35 per cent. It touched a high of 25,743.69 and a low of 25,660.46 in morning trade. 

The Nifty50 was trading at 7,875 down 25 points or 0.31 per cent. It touched a high of 7,881.00 and a low of 7,862.25 in the first 30 minutes of trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.24 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.20 per cent higher. 

Tata Motors (up 1.2 per cent), Asian Paints (up 0.95 per cent), Adani Ports (up 0.92 per cent), Axis Bank (up 0.47 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers. 

DRL (down 1.7 per cent), HUL (down 1.6 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1.4 per cent) and ICICI Bank (down 1.1 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.
